I scored a perfect 1600 in high school — and I still sit for the SAT every year to prove I can do it again.

I earned a perfect 1600 on the SAT in high school, and I will continue to sit for the official exam every single year I tutor students. I want to understand what my students go through, and make sure I can still provide value to families seeking to improve their scores.
I graduated from UC Berkeley with highest honors, with a double major in Math and English. I can translate Beowolf and then solve higher order differential equations, so I'm well-equipped to support you as you study for the SAT.
My sessions are conversations. I ask open-ended, thought-provoking questions that lead a student toward the answer instead of handing it to them. The goal is for students to leave a session understanding why the right answer is right — not memorizing a trick they'll forget by the next practice test.
I break geometry and algebra down into clear, repeatable patterns, so students recognize what a problem is really asking and stop second-guessing themselves.
I teach students to read carefully and precisely — to see exactly what the passage says, spot the traps in the answer choices, and back up every answer with evidence.
“He asks great questions. His questions are typically open-ended and thought-provoking. His questions lead the students toward investigation. Riley feeds off of and fuels the energy in the room well. He takes what the students say and turns it into the next question.”
“After twenty-three years of teaching, I'm an expert eavesdropper and the conversations Riley has with his tutees are amazing. He asks leading questions, explains things simply and accurately, extracts from them knowledge they didn't realize they possessed and then helps them to reach the next level of understanding.”
I work with a small number of students so I can give each one my full attention. If you'd like to see whether we're a good fit, book a time that works for you and we'll go from there.
